COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP
Women’s Council for Philanthropy members are appointed by the JSU Development Foundation Board of Directors. Nominations come from current Foundation board members, Council members, University administrators, faculty and staff, the JSU National Alumni Association, and others in the JSU community. Once reviewed by the Council Chairman and the Membership Committee, names are proposed to the JSUDF Board for approval. Prospective members are then extended an invitation from the Foundation Executive Director and the Council Chair to serve on the Council for a three-year period.
Criteria for membership consideration include:
- Financial commitment of $3,000 for three-years ($1,000 annually).
- Demonstrating and encouraging a leadership commitment to philanthropic and volunteer initiatives at Jackson State.
- Expressed interest in and concern for JSU and its educational programs.
- Prominence achieved through professional work or volunteer activities.

The Council provides opportunities for members to:
- Meet a number of new, unique women and learn from them.
- Be involved in building a community of women passionate about Jackson State University.
- Learn about what is going on inside the classrooms at Jackson State University.
- Be involved with a group of like-minded women for a joint purpose.
COUNCIL MEMBER JOB DESCRIPTION
We ask that members of the council commit to the following:
- Make an annual gift of $1,000 to the philanthropic area of interest at the university.
- Attend council meetings held each spring and fall.
- Assist in the development efforts of Jackson State University by making connections through their business and/or personal contacts.
- Mentor future generations of women philanthropists by becoming involved in a program area at the university.
- Host a social, educational or networking event on behalf of the JSU in coordination with the Women’s Council and Division of Institutional Advancement.
- Participate in dynamic university activities to meet and connect with like-minded women.
- Enhance their knowledge at informal gatherings with scholars in their areas of interest.
