The School of Social Work provides educational opportunities for a diverse group of students to earn degrees at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Students learn the knowledge, skills, values, and ethics of the profession of social work in a supportive academic environment.

Dr. Jenny Savage earned her Ph.D. in Social Work in 2003.
Dr. Tabitha Brookins Dr. Brookins earned her Ph.D. in Social Work in 2016. She is an assistant professor of social work at Alabama State University in Montgomery.
Dr. Katina Lang Lindsey Dr. Lindsey earned her Ph.D. in Social Work in 2016. She is currently an assistant professor of social work at Alabama A&M University.
Regina Lacking, (MSW, 2015) is the regional director for the Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services for Hinds and Warren counties.
Angela Wright Angela Wright, (MSW, 2012) is the executive director of Harmony Court Assisted Living, a facility in Jackson, MS that serves elderly dependent and independent individuals.
Schantate Johnson-Bickham, LMSW (MSW ’99) is the Chief Executive Officer of Advance Therapeutic Concepts, Inc. in Snellville, Geogia (left). Renee Clark (MSW ’99) is the Chief Operating Officer of Advance Therapeutic Concepts, Inc.
Shirley Danzy Shirley Danzy (BSW ’90) is an automotive production supervisor at Nissan North America in Canton, MS and is currently a doctoral student in social work at Jackson State University.
LTC Dexter Brookins LTC Dexter Brookins (BSW ’96) is a force protection plans officer for the United States Army. He is currently retired from military service.
Dwight Buckingham Dwight Buckingham (BSW ’96) is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of R.E.A.L. Horizons Consulting Service, LLC, in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Bring Change In The Community
The School of Social Work Program seeks to prepare students to become leaders in enhancing the quality of life and seeking solutions to social problems. It is particularly concerned with the consequences of injustice, and thus focuses on the empowerment of at-risk populations and the advancement of social, economic, and political justice in all communities. The program is especially committed to increasing students’ understanding and appreciation of diverse life experiences.

The School of Social Work is especially committed to increasing students’ understanding and appreciation of diverse life experiences. While guiding both traditional and nontraditional students from varied backgrounds toward professional careers in social work, the program seeks to provide special support and sensitivity to students with the potential for success in this field.
