Students at the Hinds Community College Jackson Branch were given the opportunity to create a community with everything they wanted in a mock planning assignment. As part of recruitment, Dr. Talya Thomas, DURP assistant professor; Dr. Moe Chowdhury, DURP visiting assistant professor; and Ms. Lisa Johnson, Student Development Coordinator made a presentation to this Geographical Information Systems class. They were introduced to Urban Studies as a major
and how it is beneficial to have GIS experience
as a planning professional.
The team leaders made the presentation for the two groups and described details ranging from an airport to bus stops.
They also gave their respective communities names such as East Shore and Utopia.
