On Saturday, March 25th PHIT staffed welcomed metro Jackson area High School Students to the HISTA Academy’s first official event. HISTA (Health Informatics, Science, and Technology Academy) looks to provide students with a pathway to careers in informatics and technology. Students were greeted by PHIT Executive Director, Dr. Loria Brown-Gordon who started the morning off by introducing HISTA staff and outlining the program’s agenda. They also met with instructors who would be leading their courses in Tableau, R, and Python. Brown-Gordon said that future professionals will transform the usage of informatics in industry.

“We want to begin to demythify informatics and analytics for these kids,” she said. “Our hope is that one day our HISTA students will be leading experts in this field.
