Mr. Kevan Johnson currently serves as Assistant Band Director, Chief Arranger, and Instructor of Music Technology at Jackson State University. He received his Bachelors of Music Education from Jackson
State University and his Masters of Science in Music Technology from Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis. During his tenure at Jackson State University, he participated in several ensembles including the University Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Brass Quintet, and Marching Band where he also served as a student arranger. He studied Horn under Dr. Crystal Swepson-Britton.
He has over a decade of experience in secondary education. Working with band students in grades 6-12 in Louisiana, Florida, Tennessee, and Mississippi. His ensembles have received Superior and Excellent
ratings in district and regional assessments. His current teaching responsibilities include courses in music education, music technology, and conducting the Brasswind Ensemble and Concert Band II.
Mr. Johnson has arranged for high school bands, college bands, chamber ensembles, and vocal groups.
He has held the following professional affiliations: WTSBOA (West Tennessee School Band and
Orchestra Association), FBA (Florida Bandmasters Association), NAfME (National Association for Music
Education), HBCU National Band Directors Consortium (HBCU-NBDC).
