Biography

Dr. Jana Talley’s work has focused on Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education (RUME) and the inclusion of underrepresented groups in the mathematical sciences. A native of Kansas City, MO, she is a 2002 graduate of Alcorn State University. There she received degrees in Mathematics and Secondary Mathematics Education. She earned her PhD in Mathematics with a specialization in RUME from the University of Oklahoma in 2009. In 2010 she joined the Department of Mathematics at Jackson State University, an HBCU located in the urban center of Jackson, Mississippi. As a tenured, associate professor she partners with researchers and professors across the country to cultivate opportunities for minority students to enter and thrive within STEM spaces. She currently serves as a regional director for the NSF HI Bridge to Academia program that supports HBCU Instructors in completing PhDs and transitioning into the professoriate.
