Biography

Garrad Lee is the History and Culture Access Consortium (HCAC) Digital Humanities Program Manager at the Margaret Walker Center and COFO Civil Rights Education Center at Jackson State University, a position he started in January of 2022. Previously, he was a member of the faculty as a History instructor at the Jackson, MS campus of Hinds Community College from 2011-2021. He currently sits on the board of the Briarwoods Arts Foundation in Jackson, MS. 

Garrad has degrees from Mississippi State University (B.A. Psychology), the University of Colorado-Boulder (B.A. Ethnic Studies), and Jackson State University (M.A. History), where he worked as a graduate assistant at the Margaret Walker Center (2009-2011), helping to digitize the Margaret Walker Personal Papers Collection. His research and work is centered on African American History with a focus on the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements. Garrad is an avid collector of records, tapes, and sneakers and loves to travel with his wife and friends for live music, soccer matches, and basketball games.
