MLK Convocation and For My People Awards Luncheon

January 17, 2025

Our 57th Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Birthday Convocation will take place at 10:00 a.m. the morning of January 17 in the Rose E. McCoy Auditorium. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Charles M. Payne, whose classic book I've Got the Light of Freedom: The Organizing Tradition and the Mississippi Freedom Struggle, will be celebrating its 30th anniversary. There will be performances from the JSU Music Department and several speakers.
In addition, Our For My People Awards luncheon will be held at noon in the JSU Student Center Ballroom A on Friday, January 17, 2025, following the convocation. Tickets to purchase a meal are $25 and will be available to purchase online soon.
Each year we celebrate people and organizations who have done great work in the name of African American history and culture by giving them the For My People Award. The list of past recipients includes Dr. Margaret Walker Alexander, Ambassador Andrew Young, Mrs. Reena Evers-Everette, Dr. Joyce Ladner, the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, and others.
