Mission:
The mission of Jackson State University’s School of Lifelong Learning Seniors College is to provide a Total Quality Of Life Learning Experience for persons 55 and older who:
(1) seek intellectually stimulating activities to enhance knowledge, and
(2) appreciate social interaction as an opportunity to build new friendships.
Organization:
The School of Lifelong Learning Seniors College is administered by a coordinator. This position is supported by a student service specialist. Additional support is provided by the School of Lifelong Learning in the College of Education and Human Development.
Membership
Full Membership is offered to those who are (1) 55 and older, (2) Possess a High School Diploma or GED, or Possess potential to meet the educational standards of Jackson State University.
Membership Fee
Full Membership requires $10.00 annual membership fee by October 1st, annually.
Main Location
Jackson State University; School of Lifelong Learning; 3825 Ridgewood Road; Jackson, MS 39211. Additional locations within Jackson State University facility will be made available as needed.
Academic Credit Opportunities
Seniors College members with full membership status have opportunities to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Interdisciplinary Studies with a variety of concentrations in areas such as Human Resource Development, Commercial Recreation, Infant and Toddler Development, and Faith Based Leadership.
Personal Enrichment Workshops
Full Seniors College members may participate in Personal Enrichment Workshops at reduced cost. The workshops will cover a variety of areas that may be of interest to seniors. Examples include Creating Your Retirement Plan, Improving Your Interior and Exterior Health and Wellness, Language and Literacy Refresher, and much more. All other participants will be required to pay advertised costs.
Educational Travel
All Seniors College members will have the opportunity to participate in Educational Travel programs on a local, state, national, or international basis.
Social Clubs
Seniors College offers all members a chance to appreciate collaborative learning through social interactions that build new friendships. They may participate in organizations such as book clubs, stock market clubs, and community service projects.
Activities
Seniors College offers weekly scheduled activities for members in dance (Zumba, Line, and Ballroom, etc.), games, arts and crafts, exercise activities, special community projects, educational travel, a college newsletter, course participation in special courses or seminars for college credit
