Signs and Symptoms of Mental Health Concerns

"Student Affairs Cares"

 

There are several signs and symptoms that could indicate a person is experiencing mental health concerns. These may include:

  • Individuals may display the following behaviors when experiencing distress:
  • Aggressive physical and/or verbal acts towards students, faculty, staff, or others
  • Expression of suicidal thoughts, ideations, gestures, and/or attempts
  • Poor hygiene
  • Disruption, withdrawal, and/or isolation
  • Stalking and harassment
  • Challenging authority
  • Excessive talking
  • Excessive tardiness
  • Inappropriate conduct while on field assignments on and off campus
  • Fidgety
  • Anxiousness/panic-like symptoms (i.e. rapid breathing, sweating)
  • Inability to communicate
  • Loss of touch with reality (delusions, disassociations, and hallucinations)
