All ADA accommodation volunteers for the Fall 2014 Commencement Ceremony are required to attend dress rehearsal(s) for the commencement ceremony. There will be a mini-training during rehearsals to discuss ADA protocol for assisting those individuals who require accommodations. All ADA volunteers are asked to report a minimum of 1 1⁄2 hours prior to the events.
At each graduation ceremony there will be designated areas to seat those who are wheelchair bound, on a walker, or have other impairments that prohibit their being able to navigate the stairs and/or ramps. The person(s) receiving the accommodation(s) may be accompanied by one adult. Please note that minors are not allowed to assist persons requesting services nor are the minors allowed to sit in the designated ADA areas.
Shuttle services will be available, moving through the parking lots to the Athletic and Assembly Center. Designated ADA shuttles with identifiable signage will be available to transport those who have difficulty walking. All persons who require accommodations will have priority usage of the ADA shuttles.
The commencement ceremony can be viewed via a live stream video in the Rose McCoy Auditorium. If there are persons who have medical reasons for not being able to utilize the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center, they are encouraged to utilize this facility.
Each location will have a designated section for those who are requesting special consideration based on a particular medical issue. If you have any questions, or if you are not able to fulfill your responsibilities as a volunteer, please contact the Ms. Monica Jones in the Latasha Norman Center for Counseling and Disability Services at (601) 979-3704.
