Jackson State University has made provisions to reasonably accommodate the students, faculty, staff and guests during the 2012 Fall Commencement Ceremonies. The following accommodations will be provided:
- At each graduation ceremony there will be designated areas to seat those who are wheelchair bound, on a walker, or have other impairments that prohibit being able to navigate the stairs and/or ramps. The person(s) receiving the accommodation(s) can be accompanied by one adult. Please note minors are not allowed to assist persons requesting services nor are the minors allowed to sit in the designated ADA areas.
- Shuttle services will be available, moving through the parking lots to facilities for both ceremonies. Designated ADA shuttles with identifiable signage will be available to transport those who have difficulty walking. All persons who require accommodations will have priority usage of the ADA shuttles.
- The graduate and undergraduate ceremonies can be viewed via a live stream in the main campus Student Center, Ballrooms A & B located on the 3rd floor. If there are persons who cannot endure the sun and/or have medical reasons for not being able to utilize the stadium or AAC, we encourage them to use this facility.
The list of general accommodations is not all inclusive but it does address the overarching requests that have been documented through the Latasha Norman Center for Counseling and Disability Services. Volunteers will be able to assist and address request on an as-needed basis. Medical staff will be on standby during each ceremony for emergency needs.
