On November 17, 2010, we formally introduced the JSUAdvance project to female faculty members from the Science, Engineering, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines within the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology (CSET) and the Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) from the College of Liberal Arts, by inviting them to attend the 1st Annual JSUAdvance Luncheon. Faculty members from the two colleges were invited because of their potential involvement with the project. There were a total of twenty-five individuals in attendance. All members of the leadership team (Moore, McNeil, Hardy, and Gardner) as well as female deans who are working on the Implementation Team (Leggette and Mack) and the Associate Dean from the College of Liberal Arts were in attendance to support the event. Dr. ConSandra McNeil (Co-PI and Professor of Sociology) served as the “Mistress of Ceremony,” Dr. Mark Hardy (Co-PI, Professor of Biology, and Provost of Academic Affairs at Jackson State University) gave the “Welcome;” Dr. Mahasin Owens-Sabir (Senior Personnel, Associate Professor of Sociology, and Faculty Senate President) offered “Greetings,” and Dr. Loretta Moore (PI, Professor and Chair of Computer Science) provided an “Overview of JSUAdvance”. A question and answer session was held after attendees had lunch. The attendees were engaged, very enthusiastic, and very receptive and supportive of the ideas and information presented at the luncheon.
