Spring 2025 Move Out Information
Residents are expected to check out of their rooms within 24 hours after their last final exam or by 12 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2025. Any resident who stays past 12 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2025, without approval, will be required to pay $50 per hour and may be locked out of their room. Only under special circumstances authorized in advance by the Executive Director are students permitted to stay past the deadline.
NOTE: Students moving out between 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. should check-out with their Community Assistant (CA) or Community Director (CD).
Students moving out after 8 p.m. should complete the Express Check-out form at the front desk. Please note that by choosing Express Check-out instead of checking out with your CA/CD, students waive their right to dispute charges related to damages, left items, or cleanliness.
Please familiarize yourself with the check-out process outlined below to help you have a more successful experience when you do check-out AND avoid any unnecessary charges.
Everyone will need to sign up for a slot, whether it’s Express or In-Person.
Residents have the option to schedule an in-person check-out appointment OR an express check-out appointment with their CA.
Be sure to follow the steps below to properly complete the check-out process.
Use the link sent in your move out email to schedule either an in-person check-out appointment OR an express check-out appointment based on your preference. Appointments must be scheduled 24 hours in advance (minimum) of your preferred time to check-out. It is the resident’s responsibility to schedule their preferred check-out appointment. Appointments scheduled less than 24 hours prior to the student’s preferred check-out time or not scheduled at all will be subject to a $175 improper check-out fee.
Personal belongings which are left behind when a student vacates his/her space are considered abandoned property and will be removed from the space/suite/apartment and be discarded. Abandoned items will be discarded as early as the Monday following graduation (May 6, 2025). Abandoned items will be subject to a minimum removal fee of $100.
If you think you have forgotten personal property in your room after you have left campus, you should contact the Housing Office immediately, to see if the items are still in the room. If the personal property is still in the room, you will be permitted to pick up your personal property.
JSU Housing is not responsible for any discarded or abandoned items.

Damage/Cleaning
-
You must return your room to its original configuration: all furniture must be returned and in the correct room, and all parts of the room must be cleaned. The CA and CD determines damages based on the information submitted on the room condition report (RCR). If damage was not documented on the RCR at check in, all occupants may be charged for the damage.
To clarify responsibility for damage in the common areas, if the responsible residents are not determined, all impacted residents will be charged, and the fines will be split accordingly. This ensures that the cost of any damage is fairly distributed among those affected.
Notes:
- Use of Rolling Chairs. While it may be convenient, University furniture is not supposed to leave the building. Therefore, using your rolling chair to move items out of your hall is prohibited. Using the chairs in this manner damages the rollers that will be inspected at check out. If you have been misusing your rolling chair you may be held financially responsible for any damages to the chair.
