According to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, the Jackson Heart Study is the largest research study in history to investigate the biological, genetic and environmental risk factors associated with the disproportionate burden of cardiovascular disease in African Americans. The Jackson Heart Study collaborates with Jackson State University and various institutions for research advancement, community engagement and educational development for academic-development objectives. One of the program’s aims is to encourage underrepresented minorities to pursue careers in biomedical research and public health.
