Since its establishment in 1993, the International Programs Office has made great strides in internationalizing Jackson State University. Listed below are few of its achievements:
- Increased international student enrollment through competitive awards regarding NESA, WorldLearning, Cultural VISTA, Brazil Science Mobility Program, and others.
- Expansion of services (translations, interpretations, credential evaluation, travel orientation and debriefing, international scholarship application support, and internal international scholarship awards).
- The only International Visitors Center on a HBCU campus.
- The only English as a Second Language Institute on a HBCU campus in Mississippi.
- Established as an official testing site for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- Extended English language training to Hinds County Human Resource Agency for its Headstart Centers.
- Hosts orientation programs for the US Fulbright Commission Flagship Programs
- 1998 – 2006 International Visitors Center of Jackson (IVCJ) of JSU was listed in the top five Centers for International Visitors by the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV).
- 2005 IVCJ staff received the Excellence Award in Programming from the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV).
- The ability to translate and/or facilitate the translation of any document.
- The ability to provide interpretation services for almost any language.
