- ESL-G 207: English Grammar
8 – 8:50 am M-FThis course will focus on teaching grammar through a variety of listening and speaking strategies. Additionally, this course will provide a strong focus on learning grammar structures to aid in better listening comprehension. Students will learn how to negotiate meaning on a variety of topics through listening and speaking activities.
- ESL-ESW 205: Essential Writing
10 – 10:50 am M-FIn this course, students will learn how to plan, organize, draft, and revise paragraphs for coherence through in class and out of class assignments, constructive editing from the instructor, and peer review from classmates. Vocabulary from various academic disciplines will be explored. Students will also gain mastery at an intermediate level in sentence structure, word order, tenses, and punctuation.
- ESL-EC 303: English Communication
11-11:50 am M-FIn this course, students will learn how to listen for information through grammar development exercises. A strong focus will be given on producing speech utilizing various basic idiomatic expressions. Special attention will be given to ways to express surprise, amusement, and doubt and uncertainty and responding to voice and intonation cues.
Evening Courses:
- ESL-RWA 201: Reading and Writing Application
6-6:50 pm M-FThis course develops ESL students’ vocabulary, both productive and receptive, and reading comprehension skills, and skills in writing different texts at the intermediate level. Instructional modules include “snapshot”, “word power”, “writing”, and “reading” in the context of contemporary, real-world topics relevant to the students’ lives. This course helps students to pick up words, phrases, expressions, and idioms from reading, by using skimming and scanning skills, a variety of text types for different purposes.
- ESL-EC 203: English Communication
7-7:50 pm M-FThis course will focus on the art of managing conversational topics though listening and speaking. Students will learn how to convey information verbally using the correct tone and register. A strong focus will be given on negotiating meaning using various oral discourse strategies. Special attention will be given to ways to request information and the development of active listening skills. The end result will be the production of comprehensible and natural speech on a variety of topics.
