Jackson State University is about challenging minds and changing lives. We are educators, innovators, researchers and creators. None of this is possible without Annual Giving donors. Each year, thousands of alumni and friends of Jackson State University make contributions to the colleges, programs, and causes that are important to them.
Establishing A Scholarship
Jackson State University provides the opportunity to create a named endowment at a minimum commitment level of $25,000. This amount can be paid over a period of up to 5 years. An endowed scholarship awards funds to students for tuition and fees based upon approved criteria. Once the endowment has been fully funded, annual spending amounts will be made available for distribution. The amount available will be dependent upon the interest earned annually. Additional gifts can be made to the corpus of the endowment or to the spending account.
A minimum gift of $5,000 is required to establish a non-endowed scholarship fund. Individuals and organizations take up to one year to complete the funding of a non-endowed scholarship. If the minimum funding requirements are not met within one year, the donor/contact person for the scholarship will be notified that the funds contributed will be transferred into the general scholarship fund. (Arrangements can be made to pay the $5,000 over a period of up to 5 years, if necessary). Non-endowed scholarships are considered established and active with the minimum gift.
