Interested in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, drama, screenwriting or songwriting?
JSU’s Department of English, Foreign Languages & Speech Communication offers a minor and concentration in Creative Writing!
The Creative Writing Concentration and Minor are both designed to expose students to the craft of writing creatively while guiding them in producing narratives of their own in workshops and courses led by published authors and faculty members.
Our program at Jackson State University possesses a deliberate focus on social justice and community as guiding themes for course content and student work. In addition, our students are encouraged to embrace the rich heritage of writing set forth by icons like Margaret Walker, Richard Wright, Kiese Laymon, Angie Thomas, Natasha Trethewey, Jesmyn Ward, and more!
The Creative Writing Concentration is designed for undergraduate and graduate English majors. The Creative Writing Minor is open to students from any department across our campus. Both programs require 21 hours of study in specified creative writing courses.
