The Computer Science Program is responsive to the educational needs of its students, offering both B.S. and M.S. degrees. The programs combine thorough preparation in the fundamentals of computing with the opportunity for more advanced work in Computer Science, Information Systems, and Computational Science.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

Program Educational Objectives

The objectives of the Department of Computer Science are to graduate students with:
  1. An understanding of and the ability to apply the core principles and theories of Computer Science.
  2. The motivation and preparation to engage in life-long learning, including entering graduate programs in Computer Science and related fields.
  3. The professional skills needed for employment, while being able to adapt to rapidly changing technology.
  4. An understanding of the ethical responsibilities of a computer professional and the social impact of computing.

Student Outcomes

 

Graduates of the Computer Science program will have an ability to:

  1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
  3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline
  6. Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.
